Why These Are More Than Just Sandals

When Caleigh Hernandez was traveling through Uganda, she fell in love with some beautiful beaded leather sandals she found in a craft market. A quest to find their source led her to Kenya, where she met a woman named Lydia who was a sandal supplier employing over 40 female artisans making the sandals. By establishing a partnership with these women, Hernandez was able to launch RoHo, a social enterprise dedicated to making change by honoring people for their craftsmanship and creating decent work with a sustainable wage.

The Swahili word for spirit or kindness, RoHo makes it easy for consumers to buy beautiful, quality and ethically made products that have the ability to empower women across the world. By purchasing products from marginalized groups, largely women in East Africa, RoHo creates demand for the products in the U.S. and enables their artisans to earn a fair income and break the cycle of poverty. They also reward their employees’ retention with educational grants so their children can earn a quality education. All of this goodness on top of being stylish sandals make it a no-brainer to introduce RoHo into your life.
