Journey Afar In Film About Tech For Good
Power of 9 is a short film that examines the crucial role of mobile technology in solving some of the world’s biggest challenges. The film highlights several innovative ways mobile technology is being leveraged in underserved communities across Colombia, India and the Philippines.
In 2015, world leaders agreed upon 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), or Global Goals, to be achieved by 2030. SDG 9, alluded to in the film title, is about the need to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. In three interconnected, compelling narratives, Power of 9 demonstrates the exponential social and economic impact that can be achieved if everyone has access to mobile broadband technologies.
Through emotional interviews, graphic animation and an immersive journey around the world, Power of 9 provides proof points on the social and economic benefits that access to ICT infrastructure and mobile broadband technologies can bring.
Whether it’s an artisanal fishing community in Colombia, a rural village in India or a network of female microentrepreneurs working to rebuild an island that was devastated by a typhoon in the Philippines, the film examines the innovative ways that mobile technology has been adopted.
Expert voices from the worlds of business, international development, journalism and public affairs are woven into inspiring stories of these men, women and children whose lives and communities have been transformed by mobile technology. Power of 9 aims to inspire innovators around the world to think about the global challenges we are facing and create solutions that leverage mobile technology to work towards the SDGs.
